WWWWW

November 26th, 2018

This week was a good week! Although I can't really remember all that happened. It seemed to go by pretty fast again!
We got fed by members almost just about every night so that was really nice. I have grown to love the members here in Waverley SOOO much!! They are the best!
We had a turn over lesson with the elders in our ward. They were teaching a woman named Shishay and they thought she would be able to relate better to us. The temple missionaries were able to pick her up and bring her to the church and we gave her a church tour. She talked about how she had been praying about Joseph Smith and baptism and how her heart had been softened. It was a spiritual lesson. The only bummer was that the next day the elders got a call from her that her husband did not want her to meet with us anymore:( So that was super sad but I believe she will get another chance!
On Saturday I went on an exchange in the morning with Sister Foulger from the St. James ward. Sister Wilson went to waverley with Sister Utsch and Sister Nauna got to go to the temple for the day with President and Sister Hitchcock. The Hitchcocks came and picked Sister Nauna up very early in the morning so they could make it to the temple. We got to wake up at 3:30!! I was super tired all day!
The Chens had us over for some authentic Taiwanese food. It was really good!! Very similar to Chinese food. I love that family so much!
We got a referral this week from missionaries in Toronto who were teaching a lady from China. She came to church on Sunday and was able to meet all of the mandarin speakers in the ward. It is a miracle that she moved to our ward since we have so many mandarin speakers! It will be fun to have her learn more and come to church!
On Saturday Sister Utsch and I were talking about what we think would happen with transfers. I had an idea that I may be leaving because I have been here for a while and I was sad. But I also had the thought that it would be cool if I got to speak my last sunday in the ward. Quickly I brushed it off because it was already Saturday and I knew that wouldnt happen. But then a few hours later the Bishop texted and asked me to speak. The spirit definitely prepared me for that!!
I will be heading to Saskatoon this week and serving in the Wildwood ward. It's kinda fun because all of my areas have started with the letter W haha. And I am serving in the WINNIPEG MISSION:) I am super sad to leave Waverley though. I have become so attached! I have found that that is just what happens when you serve somewhere for 6 months. I am grateful for the chance I got to serve here and meet so many wonderful people! I know that the Lord needs me elsewhere though so I am excited to see what the transfer will bring.
It has been such a blessing to be able to take President Nelson's challenge to try and read the Book of Mormon before the end of the year! This week I was reading in Alma and I loved chapter 26. I wanted to share a scripture from it.
Verse 37 says, "Now my brethren, we see that God is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in; yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth. Now this is my joy, and my great Thanksgiving; yea, and I will give thanks unto my God forever, Amen."
I know that this is true. God is mindful of all of us!! He knows us and He knows exactly what we need!
Love you all, have a great week!

SEED

November 19,  2018

Another week has come and gone! Here's some things that happened..
-We had interviews with President Hitchcock! Oh how grateful I am for him!!
-We also had lots of exchanges. We went on exchanges with the YSA sisters and I went with a sister from Bountiful. Her name is Sister Burrell and she is awesome! I learned so much from her!
-We also went on exchanges with the Dalhousie sisters and I went with Sister Gatten. We just cant get away from each other. It was good to be together again. We saw lots of miracles!
-We also had Sister Wilson from the St James ward come to church with us on Sunday so that was kind of fun to be in a tripan again!
We had supper with Howard, his wife and daughter and the elders at a chinese restaurant and got to eat with chopsticks!! I cant remember if I have talked about howard. He is a guy that we found a few months ago and the elders started teaching him. He is super cool!!
-We also went out the eat with some awesome members, Brother and Sister Demarchi. They are the best!! More chinese food. And we ate a crab.. I will send pics!!
This week in my studies I noticed a theme of faith. I learned a lot about how obedience is an act of faith and repentance is also an act of faith. I was reading in Alma 32 and I love verse 28. "Now we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to SWELL within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves-- it must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to ENLARGE my soul; yea, it beginneth to ENLIGHTEN my understanding, yea it beginneth to be DELICIOUS to me."
If we have planted a good SEED of faith it will Swell, Enlarge, Enlighten, and be Delicious. One of the sisters pointed this out to me and I just loved it and wanted to share:) Have an awesome week!

Remember

November 12, 2018

I can't believe it is already Monday again! Where does the time go? We had a good week except for the fact that the temperature dropped A LOT!!! It is officially winter and there is snow on the ground. I think it is here to stay:( This morning we woke up and it felt like minus 26 outside. I have been in denial and havent gotten my winter coat out yet but I think it is probably time.
We met another muslim family this week. They let us in when it was super cold one night and they hardly spoke any english. We tried to teach them about prayer. They fed us apples. We prayed to leave their home and I offered to say it. As soon as I was done I looked up and saw one of the girls videoing the prayer haha.. I guess they had never seen anything like it before.
One of the chinese families we are teaching invited us over for some authentic chinese food this week! It was super awesome and we got to eat with chopsticks!! I know I say this every week but I just love the chinese culture! They gave us these shoes to wear while we were there and they were super comfortable! It was fun. We also taught them about the first vision and watched it with them and the spirit was super strong! I love Joseph Smith
We were also about to take one of our friends to the temple trailer so that he could learn more about the temple. It was perfect because he had lots of questions and he was able to learn more about the temple!
We got a call from a member this week telling us that she has a friend who she has been sharing bits and pieces of the gospel with for some time. Her friend told her on Saturday that she was going to talk to her husband about joining our church!! So that was definitely a miracle. We hope things continue to go well with her:) Member missionary work is awesome!!
We had an event at our church yesterday called "Sing for Peace". A bunch of churches in Winnipeg came together to share music. It was awesome and there were a lot of people from different faiths so it was cool that they got to come and be in our church building. We even invited some of the people we do service with at a soup kitchen each week and they came too!! It was great!
We also had a special sacrament meeting in honor of Remembrance Day. It made me think a lot about the people who fought and are fighting for our freedoms and how grateful I am for all of them. But most importantly it made me think about the ultimate "veteran", Jesus Christ, who fought for us and salvation. I am so grateful for Him and His atonement and for the opportunity it is to be a member of His church. I am grateful for the sacrament where we get to renew and remember Him and our baptismal covenants. I hope that you all strive to remember Christ every single day this week and do something more to follow Him! Love you all!

Sister Goodfridge, the muslim angel

November 5, 2018
Hello everyone! We had another busy week. Here's the run down..
- I got called Sister Goodfridge this week. That was a new one haha
- We had supper with the sweetest member, Sister Hummelle, she kept saying how we were angels.
- We then met with the family of four we found last week and turns out they are hard core Muslim. They gave us cake and juice again though! The lady was very sweet and she told us how impressed she was by the way we dressed. She said "you're practically Muslim you just need the hijab" I am not sure if I spelled that right but that wad pretty funny. I think that is the first time I have been called almost Muslim. Haha so we got called lots of things this week.
- we also had Halloween which was fun. We spent it at a members house with some other missionaries!
- we had MLC this week and that was good too!! We learned a lot about revelation, increasing our belief, and how we can create more consistency.
- we had the Sisters in NEEPAWA, Sister Peacock and Sister Martin come in for exchanges this week. Sister Peacock was one of my MTC companions so it was fun to go on an exchange with her. She is training sister Martin who just came into the mission a few weeks ago. She is from Scotland, has been a member for 2 years and is 29 years old! It was super cool to get to know her more and hear her story. By the end of the 2 days they spent with us i wanted to talk in an accent. And I wasn't even with her the whole time! She is super cool though!
-while on exchanges we saw lots of miracles. We decided to do some street contacting by the church and we were able to set up a lot of church tours so that was cool! We also raked this lady's leaves in the snow. She called us and wanted us to do it so we agreed even though we were freezing haha.
- we also had a zone meeting and Sister Utsch and I did a training on having more effective personal and companion studies. We also got trained on goal setting and planning and reviewed some of the things we learned from our last zone conference a few weeks ago!
- on Saturday we had a ward activity that some members from Brazil put on. It was small but they invited some of their non member friends and we played games and ate food. We also had some of our friends we are teaching come and they loved it!! We had to leave a bit earlier than everyone else because we had a lesson but they stayed all the way until they end so that was really cool!
- yesterday we had a broadcast from salt lake and we had sister Bingham, elder Anderson the area president, elder carpenter and elder Holland speak to us. They talked about 4 topics: ministering, temple and family history work, Sabbath day and missionary work. They have recently developed an area plan for this area that is focused on these four points. All of the talks were really good and something that I think the church as a whole has really been focusing on.
I also wanted to share a scripture I came across this past week:
Romans 8:29 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
I know this is true and that everything works out for our good!!
Love you all and hope you have a great week!!!
